For dieters, they may also serve the purpose of having those cookies out of sight to help avoid temptation.
Imagine seeing a package of cookies right before your eyes every time you open a cupboard?
Aren’t you tempted to take just one?
However, when your cookies are inside a cookie jar, particularly one that isn’t see through, you won’t feel that your will power is being tested every time you cook a meal or reach for a can of soup.
It’s not that you don’t know that the cookies are there, it’s just that when they are not constantly in your face, you tend to forget about them, unless you already have “cookies” on your mind!
Of course, there is also something to be said for lifting that lid off the cookie jar, reaching inside and pulling out a cookie.
Perhaps it’s just that it reminds us of the simple pleasures of childhood.
